The common themes of this reunion, are ‘the machines’,’ the people’ and ‘the applications’. The machines include the 4 LEO/IIIs, the UNIVAC 1108 and 1106 and the 1004 and UNIVAC 9400 at Wythenshawe. Information and photographs of these computers would be gratefully received.
During preparations we have all been reminded of the individuals who took part in trail blazing that was the development of Computing in SMBP. We all remember the good-uns, the bad-uns, the funny ones and the eccentrics. Particularly poignant has been the reminder of colleagues who are no longer with us to share in this reunion. We would be grateful for memories of any individuals that you may have. And how about those we might have forgotten? Valuable materials in this regard are Organisation Charts, and any from the Systems or Clerical departments would be particularly welcome.
We have very little information on the Applications. They formed the main raison d’etre for our existence and we would welcome anything you can provide in this area.
I was contacted via the web site by Alan Anderson who has submitted an account of his time at Hemel and Wythenshawe. While talking to Steve Kenny on a walk with the SPA Graeter Manchester Branch I mentioned Alan's name. Steve thought that it might be one of two people he had overheard talking about SMBP while on a visit to Tyneside last year. Emails have been exchanged and it turns out that it was the same person. Alan has expressed a wish to be kept informed of developments. Small world!!
